Sohan Qadri is one of the most intenationally acclaimed artists from India. His works are deeply rooted in spirituality and tantric ideas. The physical being is transcended to a deeper state. He abandoned figurations early in his career seeking to go beyond the physical state of being. His works are rich in colour and patterns which often transport the onlooker into a deeper state. His works are dye infused works on meticulously serrated paper.

Qadri was born in small town in Punjab to Hindu and Sikh parents. He was introduced to various religious traditions at a very early age. He was introduced to yogic practices at the age of seven. He later took the name of his spiritual master, Ahmed Ali Shah Quadri. His love for art was expressed at an early age.He was the first person in his family to go to college. After his matriculation exam, he went on to finish his undergraduate degree after which he pursued his love for art as an apperentice under Pyara Singh, a photographer. In 1955, he enrolled in Shimla College of Art where Satish Gujral was one of his professors. He met many renowned artists of that time and was familiarized to the modernism which was evolving in Indian Art. He was discovered by Mulk Raj Anand and his works were brought to Chandigarh where he quickly received critical acclaim. He build his own studio in his small town of Chachoki. His works started to move away from representative forms to a more abstract expression. His works were focused primarily on colours and every colour represented the elements of the universe. He had his first major exhibition in Sridharani Gallery in New Delhi. In 1965, he left India and began a series of travels that took him to East Africa, North America, Paris and Zurich. Settling in Copenhagen, Mr. Qadri participated in more than forty one-man shows, in Bombay, Vienna, Brussels, London, Oslo, Stockholm, Montreal, Toronto, Los Angeles and New York.
